We originally purchased the Sage SmartGrinder (not the Pro which I think subsequently replaced it). We had a number of issues, notably that it did not grind fine enough for making a top-end espresso in our professional Rancilio machine. Sage support was great and sent out some shims that helped us to get a finer grind that was acceptable, though the dosing was still a bit hit and miss. However, after 6 months or so, the machine suddenly pooped out. I contacted Sage support again, and with John Lewis proof of purchase, they immediately replaced it, with the new improved Pro version. This unit is a huge improvement. There is no problem with grinding fine enough -- we are now grinding at between 10 and 14 on the settings (it goes from 60 coarsest to 1 finest) and getting excellent results. The noise seems a little less than the previous model. And the doser is also incredibly controllable with dosing done at .2 sec intervals. For example, for a double shot, I am currently grinding Crankhouse espresso CH4 blend at setting 11 for 15.4 seconds. This is giving me near perfect results. The unit looks good, works flawlessly and is giving great results. Highly recommended

Works very well. Single press then leave it to do the job, much easier than a grinder where you have to hold a button pressed. The fine tuning control, so you can tweak the strength of the coffee while retaining the same number of cups setting, is extremely useful. Wide range of grinds - the coarsest should meet no objections from the most demanding cafetiere user. The ability to collect grounds direct into various receptacles, e.g. filter basket, espresso machine gadget, medium or small cafetiere jug, is also inspired. I think it's mostly metal-finished plastic rather than metal, but it still feels solid. I don't think it's noisy at all. If it proves reliable, it will be worth the albeit high price. Certainly seems the ultimate in adjustability and convenience. Looks very classy (mine is the silver one) and does not take up too much table top area. Has made my coffee grinding ritual more of a pleasure than a necessity!
